Dealing with difficult social media comments as a business owner

In my work I am often discussing dealing with difficult social media comments as a business owner. If there’s one thing that we do for our businesses that can impact our mental health, that’s social media. I don’t think there are many business owners that can post with impunity. Almos all of us have some reservations about what might come back. That’s understandable. Sometimes we can be in a vulnerable position sharing our thoughts, feelings and stories. Even a non-personal post has the ability to backfire and affect your brand.

I recently ran this 40 minute workshop to look at just this subject. First, I explain what’s going on in our brains when we see a post or comment that feels threatening. Next, I talk through how we need to soothe ourselves to allow us access to the thinking part of our brain. Finally, we can then make a decision about how to respond, or not.

Moving on, I draw upon my fifteen plus years in PR and marketing. We look at the different types of posts and the possible responses. I share some advice about social media use in general, and how you can best protect your mental health whilst using it to promote your business.
