Relationship Coaching for Entrepreneurs

A fair few of my clients are entrepreneurs, founders and business owners.  For a start, they know that with my own business background I get it. Founding , growing and running a business can be a big strain on a relationship.  Here are some reasons why…

You are in a relationship with your business

There are no two ways about it. If you run a business it will need your attention. Sometimes it will be your priority. It will drain your energy, time, sometimes even finances.  The resources it uses up can mean that there is little left for others. At times this can be a choice.  Perhaps during a launch or big pitch for instance, and this is understandable. However, sometimes we can just get into the habit of putting our business first, or letting it command our attention. This isn’t fair to ourselves, or others.

If you think that this is what’s going on for you, relationship coaching can help you look at what type of flexible balance you want in your life and business that meets everyone’s needs.

Having staff can bring up relationship issues

Having to step up and take the lead isn’t just about leadership, it’s also about relationships, and this is where we can flounder. It can be completely new territory for us. We might have to navigate how to operate in a hierarchy and yet still remain connected. We might have to discipline, to stay firm on  fulfilling our vision which can mean handling other people’s disappointment or frustration.

It can also spark worry and feelings of responsibility that can feel overwhelming. No longer are you responsible for just your own mortgage or rent; you have others to consider too, and this can be heavy.

Dealing with clients can be difficult

Clients love to ask for more, what’s called “Scope Creep.” You come to dread the words “can you just…” as you know it’s more of your time and energy they are asking for. If any part of you is a people-pleaser, this is where it’s easy to come undone. It can show up in conversations around your fees, asking for extra time or money, over-promising or over-delivering to keep people happy. This creates an unwanted relationship dynamic, not to mention impacts on those around you, your family, your partner, who are suffering because of the resources you are putting in this.

In relationship coaching we can look at where this comes from, and put in practical strategies to help you stop it!
