Taking time out is always a good thing for burnout, but often it’s not enough. People return from their holiday or time off feeling a little more refreshed, a little more restored, but pretty soon the whole cycle starts up again.
My burnout retreats are a therapeutic opportunity to deep dive into what’s causing the burnout, learn tools and practices to help you recover, and assess what changes need to be made going forwards.
The worrying thing about burnout is that once you’ve had one cycle, it’s very common to experience it again. This is what the retreat is all about: coping with and preventing burnout.
The burnout recovery retreats or business owners and leaders
My burnout retreats are held in a lovely old building five minutes away from Folkestone station (we can also create the experience online if travel is not an option). This is where you spend between two and five days with me, one to one. During this time you will learn how to reset your nervous system, analyse the root causes of your burnout, rest and replenish with seaside and park walks, nurturing food and an array of tools for you to come away with.
Patterns of overwhelm
It’s too simplistic to say that you are burned out because you have too much on your plate. The real question is why do you have too much on your plate? This is usually the pattern that has led to burnout. For some it’s an inability to say no to employers, clients, other people. Years of people pleasing or feelings of financial insecurity can contribute to this. It’s only by looking at these behaviors can things really change. Equally, it could be that neurodivergency, unrealistic expectations, or an inability to ask for help are contributing factors.
My psychotherapy background allows me to help you investigate these patterns and look at how they can be changed by just taking small, manageable steps, tweaks that have maximum impact.
The tools to recovery from exhaustion
If you’re burned out, or approaching it, it’s likely that your nervous system has been in sympathetic or fight or flight for a long time. This will affect your cortisol levels, your sleep patterns and your ability to recover day to day. I can teach you how to change that and integrate tools and practices into your day that will support you going forwards.
Assessing your environment
There is often an element of the environment in burnout. Perhaps you don’t have the support around you that would have prevented this from happening. Or maybe you also have personal or family issues factoring into this. We can look at these and make an honest assessment of where you can improve things or move away from toxicity.
Awareness for the future
Tuning in and being perceptive of yourself, your emotions, your body and your mental health is key to creating a burnout-free future. I share ways to enable you to do that so you can tune into early warning signals for overwhelm and fatigue earlier rather than later.
Details
You can join me for between 2 and 5 days on retreat. You’ll stay in a nearby hotel or Airbnb of your choice (not included in the price) and we will spend our days untangling, analysing and restoring. We’ll have a zoom session beforehand to help me tailor the programme for you and what you need, one that is flexible enough to make changes as we go along.
What is guaranteed is that our days are a mixture of practices to replenish your nervous system, coaching around new behaviours that will support you going forward, insights into what is externally and what is internally creating this issue, as well as nurturing lunches, snacks and fresh air. Expect coastal and park walks, good coffee, and maybe a little local history if that’s of interest.
