14 Jun Targeting Bloggers for PR
Your media list shouldn’t be limited just to traditional press and websites. There a hundreds, if not thousands of bloggers out there, depending on your niche, that you can also target. Indeed technology companies like Apple always devote a large part of their PR and marketing strategy to allowing bloggers to test run their new products and write about them online. This is often what drives the word of mouth effect you get in the technology world.
What’s more, targeting bloggers is fun. They are often just normal people, like you and me, but writing for out of passion rather than just doing a job. It can be a very welcoming world, depending on the niche, especially if you too blog around the subject (hint:why don’t you set up a blog too?).
The trick, however, is not to be too pushy. If you would like them to review something, you probably wouldn’t approach them in the same way you would a journalist (press release, business like call to see if they would like one sent over/put them on the guest list etc). The approach is going to be a lot more personal, using their blog as a starting point, and referring back to things they have written or a particular point of view they hold.
But where to find them? Ah, that is the question. And the lovely people over at Csion have answered it for us with this very useful round up of lists of bloggers. It is not exhaustive, but it is a very good place to start:
